Ever heard of John the Baptist?

It was he who baptized none other than Jesus of Nazareth. Where do we get it from?

2,000 years? Because of Luke, yes the one with the Gospel of luke, left us this in writing. The fact that Jesus Himself was baptized shows the great importance of the sacrament of baptism in the life of a Christian. The sacrament of baptism is the first of 7 sacraments that a Christian can experience. The baptismal candle, which has been an integral part of baptism for several hundred years, is much more than just a nice souvenir ora mere decoration.

The baptismal candle should accompany the young Christian all his life like a light of life. In former times it was lit for the last time at the death bed of the owner. Thus the circle closes.

The baptismal candle in the course of time
Earlier ones showed above all Christian symbols like the cross, the holy spirit dove, the alpha and omega (the first and the last letter in the Greek alphabet symbolizes the beginning and the end) or the PAX which symbolizes the Christ monogram in Greek spelling.

In addition, the baptism candles were usually very elaborately decorated and designed. An almost extinct craftsmanship today, which was very often used to make candles in the past, is the so-called pinching of the candle. With this very filigree kind of the organization, small wax webs are worked out from the still-warm candle by means of a tool until an even pattern enclosing the whole baptism candle results.
But also with wax blossoms and myrtle tendrils, beautiful baptismal candles could be arranged. But always the Christian motive stood in the foreground.

For more than two decades, however, baptismal candles have also been subject to a certain fashion.
